Overview of the Heart of Burton

Since 2002 the Heart of Burton has been making this neighbourhood a better place for all. We’ve supported a whole host of local initiatives which are improving the quality of life for people and there are plenty more plans in the pipeline.

What is it?

The Heart of Burton is one of only 35 Neighbourhood Management Pathfinders (or NMPs) in the country.

Each NMP receives money from central government so that action can be taken to reduce crime and unemployment, provide better health, education and housing and generally improve the environment in which we live and work.

How is it run?

The Heart of Burton has a Partnership Board and a team of officers. Led by the Neighbourhood Manager, Becky Elson, the team is based at the Heart of Burton Advice Shop, 73 Horninglow Road. The shop is usually open between 9.00am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Pop in anytime for help, advice and information – we are here to serve you.

A Partnership Board oversees the work of the Partnership. This is made up of local residents who are the real experts on the neighbourhood, councillors from East Staffs Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council and service providers

What does it do?

We work together with residents, local service providers, organisations and agencies to support initiatives, which will make a difference in the area.

To be part of the Heart of Burton Partnership those responsible for delivering our public services must sign up to an agreement that they will work with local people to make changes for the better and continue to make use of their own resources to improve services.

Long term aims

Once the Partnership has provided initial funding for a project the aim is to build and develop it into a successful initiative which attracts mainstream funding. This means they will become a part of everyday service delivery rather than a short-term solution.
