What is Neighbourhood Management?

Neighbourhood ManagementThe Heart of Burton Partnership is part of a national pathfinder programme started in 2001 - it is one of 35 across the UK. All of the pathfinders are based in some of the most deprived neighbourhoods across England identified through key issues such as social and economic deprivations, poverty, low aspiration and education attainment, poor health, high crime rates, high unemployment, low wages and poor housing.

The government is pioneering, through the pathfinders, a new kind of approach to regeneration and neighbourhood renewal. The overall objective is to deliver change at neighbourhood level firstly, by identifying need at community level and building capacity to ensure local residents are involved in, and able to influence local service provision and secondly, through positive partnership working that identifies joint solutions that tackle the identified priority issues. Whilst the pathfinders are funded, they are not funded to the level of previous schemes such as SRB or New Deal for Communities - the theory being that the funding invested represents just 1% of service delivery funding going into an area - the pathfinders' role is to challenge the way services are delivered and use that 1% to achieve sustainable change.
